You might be interested in reading Harry G. Frankfurt's "Freedom of the Will and the Concept of a Person." I haven't read your full piece in detail, but it seemed like for part of it you were talking about freedom and how people cannot always "will what they will." Frankfurt's definition of freedom is something like "people are able to will what they want to will." It's written fairly nicely from a logic perspective and I didn't find it to be too tough of a read.
